Simple planning for local events
Local events can bring in large proportions of income for Charities.
However they depend on support from head office and this is only cost effective
if it is organised properly and expectations are set up.
It is important to ask the following questions, although bear in mind
there are ways and ways of asking questions or offering supportive advice.
Event Plan
-
What is the complexity or degree of difficulty of the event (e.g. is outside,
does it involve legal issues, does it involve large amounts of people etc.).
-
What is the potential income expected
-
Description of the event
-
Timing and diary dates of the event
-
Resources needed (e.g. people, facilities, equipment and supplies, publicity
and promotion, expenditure)
-
Risk Management (how difficult is this and what is the worse case scenario).
-
Legalities (any permits needed, authority agreement etc)
-
Any Extra Points
Answering these questions will help you to become clear about the advice
you can give local event organisers. Everyone want so succeed and
those who run local events often have the inspiration but do not have the
knowledge to make it successful. Unfortunately most people believe
fundraising is easy. If you have a good cause why wouldn't anyone
give. This, as people in the field know, is not enough in today's
society.
As professional fundraisers it is also important to have concrete information
that helps to make good decisions, especially where risk may be involved.
It is also important to offer good positive advice to individuals who are
raising money in their own homes/offices/pubs/clubs etc.
You may also find it important to divide this information into events
that raise up to, say £500, then £500 to £1,000, £1,000
to £2,000, etc to see what expertise and advice you can again from
the different categories and what certain criteria always show themselves.
This will help you to understand your local event fundraisers and help
you to management far more effectively.
If they have a positive experience with you it will not only make them
want to repeat the success but may mean they wish to do it again for your
organisation.
Creating good positive relationships at this level of fundraising is
no more than vital to the success.
