Non verbal communication
Having this skill is a useful tool when meeting customers and building
on a relationship. This is not to say that the following is a bible but
will help you to have more information when trying to read into a situation.
One of the powers of an excellent fundraiser is their ability to use instinct
and creativity to build a solid relationship.
Don't forget the best relationships are long term - this applies to
both companies and individual - after all individuals; especially in today's
society continually change jobs. If they have had a successful and happy
relationship they may take you with them. The point is too much energy
is used up in trying to make new businesses and not enough on developing
an existing business.
It is said that the most important thing when communicating is to be
aware of how you say things as this is the part that is picked up on the
most, not what you say! It is said that body language accounts for over
50% of the impact of someone's message. This is quite something!
Here are some indicators and their suggested meanings for you to think
about next time you are in a meeting. Don't forget to watch yourself as
well as the other person!
-
Pupils get bigger if people like something
-
Arms crossed suggest something defensive or negative (don't forget they
may have hurt their arm just before you came in!)
-
Legs when crossed portray negative feelings (don't forget negative feelings
include shyness).
-
If someone copies your body language it means that they agree with your
point of view.
The more one becomes aware of your own body language the more you will
become aware of other people's non verbal communication.
